Biology

B.Sc. Biology students are invited to attend our “Introduction to Human Genetics” lecture (held in German) as a “Spezialvorlesung”.
This lecture covers various aspects of basic human genetics including introductions to cancer genetics, epigenetics and therapeutic approaches for genetic disorders. The lecture is given once a year in each winter semester and is subject to a written exam at the end of the semester.

For M.Sc. Biology students we offer a complete “Human Genetics” module, which includes the “Advanced Human Genetics” lecture as well as a 2-week hands-on intensive workshop at our Institute, a six-week internship and literature seminar with an oral presentation. Details on the module can be found here.

Please note that only a limited number of students will be admitted to this module, so if you wish to join as part of your M.Sc. degree, make sure to apply early (application deadline for winter semester 2021/22 is July 31st 2021) by sending us a resumée and your up-to-date transcript of records. Slots will be assigned at the end of August 2021. If you didn’t get in this year but wish to secure a spot for the next term, please get in touch with us.

If you are interested in writing your B.Sc. or M.Sc. thesis in human genetics, please send your résumé and transcript of records and make sure to include a detailed list of your hands-on lab experience. If you are not interested in wet lab work but you’re eager to learn all about basic and advanced bioinformatics or even already have some experience in this field, we can offer you internships and thesis projects on topics related to statistical genetics and handling of complex genetic data.
